*Why is this important?*
Not only are the trees beautiful, but it has been found that in urban areas, extreme heat takes a tremendous public health toll on our residents. Forested natural areas within New York City are up to 13 degrees cooler than other areas. They are also home to many native songbird species and part of our urban ecosystem.
